Meds

Was without my antidepressants for a little while- roughly half a week- but I was finally able to get them to refill it! The first day back on it was… particularly weird. Was pretty dizzy and sleepy *often* but I’m on day 2 and feeling pretty good again so that’s nice.

That was yesterday.

Today, I’m listening to a live reading a various movie critic reviews of the new Super Mario Bros. Movie on Metacritic and I think it’s more evident than ever that establishment hollywood and establishment movie critics are functionally worthless for the *vast* majority of movie goers when they go on and on at length about why they dislike movies, but those points completely miss the intended purpose and target audience of the movie. Like, there’s opinions ranging from “where is the satire” to “they ruined Peach” to “it’s too much like the games” and I’m like. Literally did any of you actually *like* Mario to understand *why* this movie is what it is?

It really does help contextualize why there are so many abysmal and nonsensical movie adaptations of other things: The people who try to break into movies by trying to appease establishment critics completely miss the mindset of actual normal people who wanted to see these things become movies in the first place. And the movies that make a point to appeal to long time fans or even new fans of the base IP do *fantastic* with the target audience but establishment critics scream and wail about how the movies aren’t new or novel or something *different* than the thing it was supposed to be trying to be in the first place.

If that is going to be what the establishment movie critics continue to do, I see no reason for their job to exist. Which I realize is rude, and I *know* there are some actual movie critics who understand the target audience and do good efforts to keep that in mind when do their review/criticisms, but it’s going to take a lot more than just a couple of good people to un-spoil the reputation of a years long role that exists for a misleading purpose: stoke the egos of the establishment under guise of “helpful reviews to guide consumer decision-making”.

IT IS DONE! Rabi-Ribi 100% All Achievements Completed!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I FINALLY DID IT IT TOOK LIKE TWO OR THREE MONTHS BUT YOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I had a pretty good time with the game! I’ll be frank, while I’ll almost certainly play a sequel/prequel- at least I think that’s what Tevi is supposed to be?- I’m probably not going to go for all achievements like this again unless I find myself really *really* liking the setting and characters. And from what I saw of Tevi, everyone has hats. And I still don’t like hats, so I’m not super excited about that.

Anyway, took me 470+ hours but I finally did it. Very good game!!

Roleplay

I often talked about how I missed MUDs but couldn’t go back to the grind. So now I’m making this little Chat-GPT based RP webapp for myself so I can sorta get the flavor of a MU* with committing to making a full MU*.

Might be cool if I can get auto-complete for room descriptions so I can save those to the database actually.

The BOFA Encounter

I just finished reading “The BOFA Encounter”. It was muuuuch spicer than I expected ,but I suppose there’s a reason why that one in particular wasn’t on wattpad lol.

also there’s a anime dating sim x tax filing software, so that’s cool.

The Great Rubber Boom

Watching more Kiff on Disney Plus. Not sure what exactly this text in the background is a reference to, but it feels kinda targeted lol. 🎈💥

Uhhhh interesting PoV, I might try drawing this later.

Nice outfit, Kiff
I should probably grab a videoclip of this.
💥
for those youtube channels that obsessively hoard every bubblegum scene to show up in any cartoon ever I suppose.
bruh
SILENT. INTENSITY.
what is this running gag about rubber explosions and tickling? lmao

Blind Faith in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and Maligned its Maligned Human Operators

Please don’t misunderstand me, this Youtube channel is actually pretty decent and has some nice content. But it also serves as a very strong example of what happens when the human operator behind an AI gets so obsessed with letting the AI optimize for algorithmic metrics (Youtube’s recommendation algorithm, which is in turn based on user usage data) that they forget that the end users of the things they’re making are _humans_ that don’t like being treated like static, arbitrary machines in a system.

Admittedly, when you look at the huge view number jump after the switch to the repetitive clickbait title screen, I can understand the incentive for them to keep doing it. But it’s short sited because it results in what me and others have been doing:

Once it becomes clear we’re being manipulated and tricked into clicking unreasonably clickbaity content with an obvious pattern, we start to get skeptical and upset. We start to make fun of the pattern or complain. We start to unsubscribe, realizing that the human operator behind the AI was so preoccupied with the new visibility via clickbait that they break the usability and utility of the thing they’re making for the other humans that the SEO techniques and clickbait titles are supposed to be appealing to in the first place.

I am very _for_ AI and ML tools. I think it’s some of the coolest tech we’ve got going on these days and I kinda wish I had focused on ML when I was back in University. But people *must* keep their wits about them when using these things. People have to remember that they are humans making things for other humans. Everyone has to remember that at least for now all of these tools have humans behind them, and when the human stops considering the other humans and gets stuck chasing metrics, they’ll find themselves optimizing towards a misleading, unhelpful goal. (cough cough, please stop buying into the capitalism hype, it does not work and fails on regular cycles and exists purely to keep the people already at the top on top by fooling all of the people doing the real hard work into thinking they’ll be next in line on top if they just work hard enough. Work for your peers and equals, not for huge rich overlords cough.)

Kiff

Watching the first episode of Kiff. Was amused when I got to 16:14 https://youtu.be/Gx5XjAT9a_o?t=974 and the scene goes from “Oh neat, it’s like one of those teenager youtube channels” to “not sure if this if they’re making fun of the in-video sponsor segments or if they’re making light of fetishistic requests during Twitch streams… or both”.

Either way, the show got my attention and I’ll probably give the whole first season a try. Besides,. I have a softspot for squirrels and bunnies and cheery light-hearted characters and the show’s primary cast is scratching all of those itches for me.

Also, I don’t remember what I originally made this blog for. But it’s mine. I’m going to use it. Suffer like G did.

Oh Hey, You Found My Blog. Congrats.
